Tork promotes Global Handwashing Day
Tork is lending its support to publicise Global Handwashing Day, an annual event aimed at promoting effective hand washing. This year’s event focuses on the schools sector and will involve millions of people in more than 70 countries
Washing hands with soap is one of the simplest, most efficient, and most cost-efficient way of saving lives. Tork is therefore proud to promote Global Handwashing Day, a yearly activity to promote proper handwashing.
This year, Global Handwashing Day will revolve around schools and children. Activities in schools, community centres, public places, etc, will involve millions of people in over 70 countries. Teaching children how to wash and dry hands properly will help establish lifelong healthy habits, and, even more importantly, save lives. For example, it is estimated that almost 4 million children under the age of five die each year from diarrheal diseases and pneumonia in developing countries. By washing hands properly with soap, authorities estimate that one million of those children could have survived.
Global Handwashing Day was initiated in 2008 by the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing with Soap. Members include the World Bank and UNICEF, and is endorsed by a wide array of governments, international institutions, civil society organizations, NGOs, private companies, and individuals around the globe.
